You can configure the PortServer/Digi One units to automatically connect to a host system when there is activity on a serial port. Once an IP address is assigned to the unit, you will then be able to telnet to the unit in order to configure it.
Telnet or SSH to the Digi unit and login as root. Issue the following commands to configure an auto telnet to a host system for the appropriate port numbers:
#> set ports dev=term auto=on dest=(IP_of_host) range=2(or desired port number)
When a user presses enter on a terminal attached to port 2, they will see the host system login prompt.
