Differences between Hubport models regarding DC and Captive

  • Hubport "DC" models are intended for applications where there is no traditional AC power source (outlet), but instead a DC power source, such as a vehicle.  DC style Hubports ship with a bare wire power connector, with positive and negative leads, instead of a power adapter.  Example:  Hubport/4c 5.5-30V DC (P/N 301-1010-44).

  • "Captive" Hubports have a permanently connected (captive) upstream USB cable.  Non-Captive Hubports have an upstream USB port and include a USB cable.  In other words, the USB cable on a Captive Hubport cannot be detached.  The USB cable on a Non-Captive Hubport can be detached, and another USB cable can be used instead.  A Captive Hubport has one less point of failure, since the USB cable cannot be accidentally disconnected where it attaches to the Hubport.
